An overview of what BrightChecks does, the checks available, how credits work, and how to get started.
BrightChecks is Bright's compliance platform, built into BrightHub. It lets you run identity, company, and anti-money laundering (AML) checks on individuals and businesses — all in one place, using a single shared credit wallet.
What checks are available?
BrightChecks currently offers five check types across three categories:
Identity checks
▪ ID Basic — Biometric identity verification. 4 credits per check.
▪ ID Enhanced — Biometric identity verification plus address validation, date of birth confirmation, and mortality screening. 5 credits per check.
Company Check
▪ Company Check — A full company due diligence report covering credit score, CCJs, insolvency status, director history, shareholders, group structure, and up to five years of financials. Available for UK and Republic of Ireland companies. 12 credits per check. Includes free ongoing monitoring. Available from 28 July 2026.
AML Checks
▪ AML Standard — Automated screening of an individual against address and mortality data, and PEP and sanctions lists. No client interaction required. UK individuals only. 4 credits per check. Available from 28 July 2026.
▪ AML Enhanced — Everything in AML Standard, plus biometric identity verification — document authentication, facial matching, and liveness testing. Requires your client to complete a biometric step. UK and international individuals. 6 credits per check. Available from 28 July 2026.
How AML results work: AML checks return one of three statuses against the PEPs and sanctions screening — Passed (no match found), Refer (a possible match that needs your review), or Failed (a confirmed match). A Refer status is not a compliance failure — it is a prompt for you to review and confirm whether the match is genuine or a false positive. For AML Enhanced, the check shows as Pending while your client completes the biometric step. See Running an AML Check and Understanding your AML Check results for full details.
Important: BrightChecks is not integrated with BrightManager. If you use BrightManager's existing checks, BrightChecks runs separately alongside them. The two do not share data or results.
Ways to get started
Option 1: Buy BrightChecks as a standalone tool
BrightChecks is available directly from the Bright website. It includes:
▪ Its own dashboard
▪ Credit-based pricing
▪ Centralised status tracking
▪ Audit-ready reporting
Option 2: Use BrightChecks with BrightManager
BrightChecks integrates with BrightManager so practices can pull through client names and email addresses automatically, start identity checks directly from the client record, and store verification personal codes against the client record.
Option 3: Use BrightChecks with Inform Direct
BrightChecks integrates with Inform Direct to support ECCTA compliance by linking identity verification to incorporation and appointment workflows. Verification personal codes can be stored securely against client records.
How credits work
All checks in BrightChecks draw from a single shared BrightHub credit wallet. The credit cost for each check type is:
▪ ID Basic — 4 credits
▪ ID Enhanced — 5 credits
▪ AML Standard — 4 credits
▪ AML Enhanced — 6 credits
▪ Company Check — 12 credits
The cost per credit decreases as you buy larger bundles. Credits are deducted at the point the check is run and are available immediately once purchased. There is no recurring subscription cost — you only pay for the credits you use.
Tip: Use the Credits Calculator in BrightHub to estimate how many credits you need before purchasing. The calculator is available on the credit purchase page.
For full pricing by bundle size, see the article: Subscribing and purchasing credits.
Step-by-step: getting started
1. Choose how you want to use BrightChecks — as a standalone tool, with BrightManager, or with Inform Direct.
2. Get access — use the Buy Now option on the BrightChecks website, or access through your connected BrightManager or Inform Direct workflow.
3. Decide which check type you need — ID Basic or ID Enhanced for identity verification; AML Standard or AML Enhanced for AML screening; Company Check for company due diligence.
4. Add your client or company details — for identity and AML checks, this includes the individual's name and contact details; for Company Check, the company number, name, and country.
5. Send or run the check — for identity and AML Enhanced checks, your client will receive a request to complete; for AML Standard and Company Check, the check runs automatically.
6. Track progress in the dashboard — BrightChecks provides real-time status updates. You will also receive an email notification when each check completes.
7. Retain the record — every check is recorded automatically, creating a complete audit trail for compliance and record-keeping.
